Looking at purchasing a V70T 99 model V70-XC70 1999

Fellow bricksters,

We are currently looking at a 99 V70T with aprox. 60,000 miles on the clock. Do I need to pay attention to (i.e. something that might cost me bulk dollars to fix). Car seems in good condition with service records, was the 99 a good model year for the V70's???

Cheers everyone

The most common problem seen lately is a lot of reports on failure
of the electronic throttle (the gas pedal is not mechanically
linked to the throttle, Volvo uses an electronic throttle starting in
1999). Repairs are pretty expensive. Search on "electronic throttle"
to find posts on the issues. That seems to be the big one.

Looking at purchasing a V70T 99 model V70-XC70 1999

Six weeks ago I bought from the first owner a '99 S70 2.0 sedan with 225Kkm and FSH. Reportedly the only work done since new was the a/c.

It now has 230Kkm and, other than an alignment and a little grease on the steering stops, it performs flawlessly. Do keep in mind that the normally aspirated 2.0 engine is the least stressed of all (fine on the highway at cruising speed, even on hills, but not exactly brilliant when the light turns green), and that 5Kkm (3Kmiles) is hardly enough to draw conclusions from.

On the other side it feels as rock-solid as any of my previous RWD Volvos and still looks like new, which is encouraging.

I would suggest that you have a Volvo specialist do a pre-purchase check.

Best of luck,

R
