I have got to ask this question. 850

Has anyone thought of moving or moved the window switches to the driver's door? The center location is not convenient for me.

Ive not done it but as long as you find a way to cut and mount the switches into the door panel it should be straight forward, cut the connector off and extend the loom behind the dash and into the door loom, plug em in.

you can tell ive not done it, but buy some scrap switches and splice the current loom and try it, if it doesnt work you only have to tape up the current wiring.

My 780 has the window switches in the door, where God meant for them to be! Not under some excuse for a cup holder which bounces just enough to splash the Coke out of my can and into the switches. Of course, from a maintenance stand point, it's a perfect placement. When the cup holder is extended, you cant reach the window switches or you break the flimsy things. Dried Coke makes the best glue.
If you move the switches to the door, a la S70, document everything! How much extra wire, how you got it through the harness to the door, etc. Then post it on Bay 13.

I actually don't mind the window switches in the middle, being used to a Saab with the ignition switch there. As far as the drink holder goes, talk about inconvenient! I have a stick shift and good luck moving anywhere with the drink holder extended--it is completely useless. . .

Buy an S70 and yes, whoever the big brained swede was that thought sticking the window switches under the drink holder was a good idea should be taken out and shot!

Ahh, perhaps true, but the S70 does not have those kick-ass door levers that slide, like on the 700/900. I LOVE the 850's inside door handles. Would never want those conventional ones that every other car has. Feels so finnicky to pull out a lever.

YES I HAVE. But it's not really feasable to do so. Or is it?

I have got to tell this answer 850

Now Now C,mon
Almost all European cars have em center. 3 main reasons were
1) Its a left hand DRIVE car (duh!) You cant drive and operate the switch or gear at the same time.
2) Reduces exposure to the elements-rain etc when water splashes.(Cup holders were meant for sealed cups)
3) Security Improvements in center configuration versus driver side.

Now given that, why would you go to the trouble of regressing back to the paleolithic American-mode era? I mean get a Chevy or some quick mass-produced model car (that will likely change designs in a year) if you want to keep doing things how you are used to. But dont make the serious drivers have to regress too cause you refuse to adapt.
Go Volvo Go Svedish Ingva!
