Power Steering Groans on Left turn - not Right turn. 850 1996

Hey all,
I've checked the fluid levels, recently had an alignment, new tires (not rubbing), water pump and timing belt. All that said, I'm ruling out a bunch of problems. The problem I'm having is that when I turn the wheel to the left, even slightly, the power steering groans as if I was turning the wheel way too far. The noise is similar to that you would normally hear when you over steer. It does NOT do this on a right hand turn. Again, all of my fluids are fine.
Has anyone heard of this? Is it simply in need of a new part or two? Which part(s) and how would I fix it? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Patrick

Did you bleed the power steering system? You might have air in the system. This happened on my 1988 244. The clamps holding the hoses onto the resivoir were loose, and air had gotten in the lines. I re-tightened the clamps on the resivoir, then opened the PS fluid cap, and turned the wheel left to right, lock-to-lock several times to get the air out. Worked fine and I never had the problem again. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

sounds like you need to grease the steering stops, common noise in 850/70 series, unless you grease them every oil change.

Simple DIY job, no need to raise the car.

    Patrick,

I have seen this problem many times on 850 s It is the sway bar links, it is not the normal complaint for the links, but maybe 1 in30 do this rather than clunk. to verify just disconnect lower mount and drive the car.
    good luck!!!
