S70 Jack Failure S70 1998

I have a 1998 S70, recently I had a flat tire, once the tire was repaired I jacked up the vechile in my garage (flat concrete surface) as directed by the owners manual with the parking brake on, removed the temp tire and slid the repaired flat under the front wheel well when the jack broke. The vechile fell on the tire damaging the wheel well, front quarter panel and the bumper. I promptly visited the Volvo dealer who set up an appointment with the Volvo factory rep (which took two months for the rep to finally inspect the car). The rep who would not meet with me sent a report stating the car "rolled" off the jack due to the parking brake was not engaged therefore it was not Volvo's problem to deal with. The parking brake was engaged! The weld on the jack broke. Is there anyone out there that has had a jack from Volvo break?

By simply looking at the stock S70 jack, you can tell it is an absolute piece of crap. I would not trust that jack to hold up my car.

I have not had a jack break; but, my wife's 1995 855 had the jack
recalled (which at least shows some official acknowledgment about
some particular batch of jacks being bad in the past).

I don't have the campaign (recall) number. But go to google.com and
type in:

volvo recall jack 1995

and you should find it.

Ah, just did that, here it is:

Mine did not break but dropped the car 3 times while trying to change a flat. The top part of the jack bent. Did not hurt the wheel but definitely is a safety hazard.

Volvo jacks S70 1998

The only car I have EVER had fall off a jack was a Volvo (a 240).

I use the scissors jack, in fact I even have a second Volvo jack for quick snow tire switches (It's neat to be able to do 2 wheels at once!) but I NEVER take a wheel off the car without 2 jackstands firmly in place!

Typical response:' must have been the owner's fault' S70 1998

sounds like the typical Volvo response, "must have been the drivers fault". To be honest, I don't trust them flimsy volvo jacks. So much for a safety company.

Remember what happened to AUDI a few years ago, multiple accidents secondary to sudden surging (due to a defective electronic control module). They blamed the owners for the problems and soon after their reputation and sales sank. Later, did they admit to the defective module, but it was a little too late.

If only VONA, would come clean with those ABS, ETS modules what a different world this would be......

Ah, just daydreaming
