Love my 2004 S-80 + Dumb Question S80

Despite all the badmouthing about the S-80, I have to admit that I love my S-80. It drive like a dream, gets good gas mileage, is probably the most comfortable car I have ever had, and ..... I like looking at it! If its going to give me a problem, I have yet to see it.

Really Dumb Question - I went to change the oil for the first time and the manual tells you everything about when to change it and what to change it with, but not where the plug is. Do I have to drop the shield? If I do, its a small price to pay for such a nice ride. Anyone know?

Love my 2004 S-80 + Dumb Question S80

I've said it before, I'll say it again - I bought a 99 s80 2.9 and it is the greatest, most reliable car I have ever owned - and I've owned them all . . . Fred

I share your feeling about the s80, it is a solid car. I have an '01 s80 and an '98 s70. Ovearll the S80 has been much more reliable, though the s70T5M is much more fun, as the right foot goes down the smile gets bigger.

On the oil change, yes you have to drop the skid pan to get to both the drain and the filter, it is kinda of a pain. Before you try the job, get the proper oil filter wrench, I have the IPD one and it works great. The filter is really hard to get off by hand, it is a plastic filter case which seals to the engine with an o-ring. The o-ring drags (rubbs) along the sealing surface for a good four turns of the filter so it is real tight to turn off and on. I think volvo sells a tool also but most of the posts (and my local volvo parts dept) recommend the IPD tool.

Good luck and happy rolling

Love my 2004 S-80 + Dumb Question S80

I don't believe everybody is bad mouthing the S80, its a beatiful car.

Most folks on this board are just giving an opinion, to AVOID the '99 year model, the first year of the S80 production. It has been a nightmare for the folks that have one.To try 200 and newer S80's. Your 2004 should do fine.

Cheers.
