Throttle? S80 1999

My car continues 2 days no notice, 2 days emission system service required & check engine. Then on the 3rd day the computer goes to normal & with the next drive the check engine goes off. Then 2 days with no messages. I am told if it is the throttle it will affect gas mileage & the power. When I step on the gas a delay. I have not noticed any delay or any change with the driving of the car. If there was a delay I would have noticed. I keep the computer on average mileage always. It is not getting bad gas mileage. The pattern mentioned above has repeated 4 times. Does anyone know what is going on? Could my throttle be getting ready to quit? It is a 99 S-80 T6. We need to keep this car 1 more year. We are americans living in Canada. When we moved here we promised not to sell our car in Canada. We plan to ditch it as soon as possible once transferred back to the states in 1 year. Please help. Sandy

his problem will not shut the car down because it's not a Safety issue like the ABS Brake Module. As you said, the car runs fine, just the annoying messages. The computer thinks there is a problem for optimum performance, but again it won't hurt the engine and based on your description, it's not about to go out as you are concerned with. Probably could go a year. What you are looking at is a good indication of when you will want to get the service done, when it accelerates poorly or changes performance significantly. Try some STP in the gas tank if you don't want to fool with the service. I would think Canada would cost less.

The service to fix this is to have the Throttle module cleaned or better replaced and should also include replacing the (MAF) Mass Air Flow Sensor located at the Air Cleaner assembly. It's not cheap which is why so many S80s out there have the annoying warning lights off and on.
