O2 Sensor & EGR Help 850 1995

Two months ago I pulled code 435 (front O2 sensor slow to respond). I cleared it and a month later it came back. A few weeks after that I pulled code 241 (EGR flow too low) and then a few days later code 436 (rear O2 sensor maximum compensation). It's at the dealer right now and they're telling me that I need new front and rear O2 sensors, a new EGR sensor and a new EGR Valve plus 4 hours of labor = about $1400.

I'm kinda suspicious since they told me that the O2 sensors can take a couple hours if they're rusted on and that seems like it shouldnt take that long. Are they on the level with me about all this, or should i just buy some new O2 sensors and hope the EGR code was just an effect of bad sensors? Any help whatsoever, even explaining to me if the EGR is a big deal at all, would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going to replace yourself the O2 sensors,
use PB B'LASTER penetrating lubricant: it works !

Change the O2 sensors your self, takes about 1/2 hour. No special tools required.

Take off your EGR valve and clean it and the hole in the intake that the gasses pass through. Takes about 1-2 hours, and $10 for a can of throttle body cleaner.

Total Cost around $250 where the O2 sensor is accountable for $240.

Man that's a lot of $$$$ and sounds like overkill.

I would take the car back home and this weekend do a little homework. With the help of volvospeed.com repairs section, clean the EGR yourself, check all vacuumm hoses for cracks and replace them. Then clear all the codes and see what codes back. A dirty faulty EGR will give you all kind of crazy codes.

And if you can change a spark plug, you can change out the oxygen sensor. Bosch may have them cheaper anyway. Just make sure that they have the harness for your car else you have to crimp the old wiring harness to Oxygen Sensor.
