S70 Rear shelf speaker grills S70

How do you remove the speaker grills on the rear shelf of the S70. I hear fuzzy noise from one speaker, like it had something bouncing on the cone. I would like to remove the grill and clean it out. Or as an alternative, can the speaker be removed through the trunk compartment?

Thanks for your help.

If you have a '99, the rear shelf cover needs to be removed as a whole.
Pull down the rear seats. Remove the side bolsters ( the cushions that run alongside the seat backs). Unsnap the rear quarter window surrounds. Lift up about an inch on the front edge of the rear shelf cover to unsnap it. Gently pull the cover forward to clear the speakers.
There are better, and more detailed, instructions here on the board someplace.
There are also repair instructions here for loose speaker innards, apparently a common problem.
Post if you find anything interesting, including how you fixed it.
Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply.

This one's a '98. Is that the same as the '99?

I suspect it is, but can't say for sure. Note, the same thing will go for the doors--removal of the whole door panel, not just the grille. Also, if you go to replacing speakers, pay close attention to your wiring diagram and the ohm ratings on the speakers--spend some time searching prior posts with things like "8 ohm" "4 ohm speaker", etc.
