Two questions about my `94 854T.

1. Not all of the switch lights work. Are they supposed to? Right now, my rear foglamp, sunroof, rear defroster and both heated seat switches (next to the shifter) do not light up; the traction control, front fog lamps, and INFO knobs do light. If the bulbs are blown, can I replace them myself?

2. Has anybody bought Kumho tires before? Am looking at a set of Kumho Ecsta ASXs (205/50/16).

3. The suspension in this car rides far harder than the stock suspension in my old `87 744T did. The 850 also is a stock setup. Is this normal or is something worn out? As far as I know, struts/springs are original with 105K on the clock.

    1) I have a 97, so I'm not sure my switch light answer will be the correct answer for your car based on one of the prevoius replies -- all of my switches except for the auto-trans mode selector light up and it's pretty easy to replace, just follow what the others have suggested

    2) I've got an 850R, so I have slightly different tire sizes, but I did buy the Kumho Exsta Supra 712... I liked them a lot and way cheaper than the P-zeros they replaced, so I'd say if the ASX model is anything like the 712, go for it.

    3) Yes, the suspension is hard as a rock. Every expansion joint makes my car buzz. At 142Kmi, it is the same as it was when I got it @ 42K. I've often thought I should replace the front shocks and possibly the rear Nivomats, but do not want to sink a ton of $$ in it at this point, plus when the dealer replaced one of my ball joints I asked hime to check the shocks out. No problems from his perspective and he told me he's seen 850s go 200K before needing new ones. Also, I think the bushings are probably overdue... never been replaced.

    Sorry, I didn't notice your's was an 84. BUT, I made a switch puller out of a safety pin. I bent it to 90 degrees and then bent the tip (1/8th in) another 90 degrees. This fit easily into the corner of the seat heater switch and allowed me to grip the pin and rock the switch lightly while pulling up. No marks on the plactic!

    Believe it or not, '92,'93 and '94 850's have switches that don't allow for bulb replacement! Instead of replacing the switches with the same part#, purchase switches from a later model year and in the future you will be able to replace the bulbs. If you turn your dimmer down from 100% brilliance to 90% brilliance, you will never have to replace a bulb again. When I purchsed my '94 850 and found out about the switches, I replaced ALL of them with the newer kind and dimmed the display just a bit. I haven't changed a bulb in 8yrs! For that matter, and this is the truth, I havn't changed a signal bulb either! Ever!

    1. Yes, all of the toggle lights should work and can be replaced. The entire switch plate is removed by prying it out with a very small screw driver and sticky fingers. Careful you don't bend the plastic dash, it will not come back to original shape.

    Re: 3. My 96 854t5 was way stiffer than the 87 764t4 that it replaced. Course, the amount of body roll on the 87 was absurdly high to begin with.
