Oil pooling additional question 850

I noticed a post about 2 days ago that someone was wondering about oil pooling on top of the engine. I've got the same problem -- replaced the oil cap filler seal and I still have it. I've got a 97 850R, so I was under the impression that I don't have a flame trap... do I have a PCV valve, or is that only on N/A cars, too?

If so... where the heck is it and is that the likely culprit?

I would check and replace the oil cap seal - its about 2 bucks. If there is not much resistance requiring you to push down then turn, the seal is likely worn and compressed. Since oil splashed against it from the valvetrain, a lot of oil can come out of that area.

for what ever reason i had to install two rubber gaskets to stop the leak from the cap. Since i did that no oil on the top.
