A/C Problem S80 2000

I have a 2000 S80 T6. I have an intermittant problem where the A/C will stop blowing cold air when I idle. It will blow warm air and this may continue beyond idle as well but it will eventually begin cooling and then it works fine from that point on. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? The last time this happened my engine temp. went to the red zone and immediately returned to normal when I turned off the A/C.

I have also had two instances where I have gone out to my car and found the fan running without a key in the ignition.

i hope you did not pay for the fan. it was a recall item by volvo. should be repaired for free.

The problem turned out to be the cooling fan. It had to be replaced. Thanks everyone for your help.

A/C Problem S80 2000

Just picked my 2000 S80 up from the dealer yesterday to fix the same problem. The A/C began to operate intermitently and I noticed that the radiator cooling fan was not running after engine shut off. The electric fan died. This repair to my fine Swedish automobile was $416.

I had the similar a/c problem as yours. After going thru extensive investigation and many trials and errors by the car agent. Changing of parts like thermostat and fan included. Bingo! at last the agent narrowed down the culprit to the control panel. Hope this will help.

Thanks for the response. I think the problem is with my cooling fan. I let my car idle in the driveway so the engine temp would go up and sure enough my fan never came on.

CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR COOLING FAN IS WORKING.THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS
WITH THE ELECTRIC FANS.AT IDLE THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR AC TO QUIT WORKING,
AND YOUR ENG, TEMP TO GET HOT.YOUR OTHER PROBLEM IS A NORMAL FUNCTION
CALLED AFTER BLOW.THIS IS TO DRY OUT YOUR EVAPORATOR.GOOD LUCK

I think you are right. I think it is a problem with my fan. I let my engine temp go up and I noticed my fan never came on.

Could be a thermistor problem...I think thats what it is called! Its located behind the dashboard I believe...as for the fan blowing without the key this is normal...usually after 40 minutes the blowers will start up...this is to dry the condenser.

I just had this happen to me for the first time today. I was wondering about that. I think volvo needs a section in the back of the owners manual. Bazzar things your volvo may do that are intentional, do not call for service!

i believe the manual does state that the fan might work after the car is turned off.
