Convert AWD to 2 WD

I recently purchased a 1998 V70 XC & have had nothing but problems. All new tires of the same brand & size, over $3,000.00 spent on AWD transmission & two weeks later more problems with the AWD system. My question is, can all rear wheel drive section be removed the vehicle operated in front wheel drive only.

since the bevel gear awd system is mechanical...i assume taking out the center drive shaft and replacing the differential at the front may do the trick...

All that one has to do is remove the driveshaft that goes front to back. The car is then FWD w/o problems.
I've done it several times when customers didn't want to buy a bevel gear.
