Driver's seat memory buttons/1,2,3 850 1995

Can anyone explain simply to me how the memory store buttons work for the
driver's seat? I have read the manual and it seemed easy enough but I thought
that when one depresses any of the 3 buttons numbered one thru three, that the
specific button will store that seat position. When I get the seat where I want it, I am not sure how to store that position. Is it possible that something else is wrong like a memory chip or something?

Thanks!

Try this: When you get the seat to your desired configuration, store the memory by pushing and holding "MEM" and then "1", "2", or "3". When retrieving the memorized seat position, you will need to hold the number button down until the seat stops moving.

Just a quick clarification on klaus's note. Hold both the MEM button and the numbered button down together, just for a moment, to store the setting to that number.

Thanks Mike for your comment. I think that might be my problem.
I may not have held them both down at the same time. I will give
it a try tonight.
