turn key to start.....nothing happens 850 1994

Car was running fine. stopped at office for a couple minutes. went out to start the car made a brief attempt to run and stopped after that, nothing....no selenoid click....starter motor did not attempt to turn engine...just dead...noted abnormal sound of the open door chime...all instrument panel lights on...tried working the shift selector back and forth, tried jumper cables...suggestion on where to begin?

If one of the many sensors the ECU checks has gorked, the car is dead. When mine had only 10K on it, same thing happened. Had it towed to dealer, it was the cam position sensor....

I've been through this. Check to make sure the battery cables are tight and connected correctly, then if jumper cables fail to make it happen and you have zero spark--My guess it is the control or computer module that went dead. You will have to buy a new one.

The car is running fine and then all of the sudden it quits running for no apparent reason, as if someone turned off the power. I have had it happen to two of my cars. Neither was a cheap fix.

Just a wild guess. Have you checked the battery's connections, i.e. both sides of the cables connecting the battery to the car?

lights, radio, fan, etc all work. Battery connections appear to be fine, Wouldn't the starter still try to start the engine even with a bad computer module? How does one go about determining if the module is bad?

Although the ECU could be bad- it is very doubtful as they seldom fail.

My guesses: 1) battery 2) electrical connection to starter 3) starter
        4) ignition switch.

Rig a test on the positive and negative leads into the starter - determine if any current is reacing the starter when the ignition is hit. If the battery is strong- then could be your ignition switch.

Batteries can be tricky- make certain it is not the simple culprit.

If you cant figure it out- take it to a good mechanic or the dealer. You don't want to shell out $750 plus USDs for a new ECU if it is not needed.

        Good Luck
