V70 p0130 oxygen sensor V70-XC70 1999

My 199 V70 has about 70k miles. Recenty the check engine light came on; I had the code checked and it was P0130.

So I installed a new front oxygen sensor and had the light reset.
I drove the car about 20 miles after the light was reset. The car ran fine.

The next time I started the car, the light came back on. I brought it back and the code was the same, P0130. I had him reset it and it came back on within 5 miles of driving.

Does this mean the sensor is defective, or could something else be causing this code?

Thanks in advance
Roland

Bosch sensors have a low failure rate but a bad one shows up every now and then. If it is the universal type that has to be spliced into the cars O2 sensor wiring, I'd take a look at the splice (four wires) to make sure they are clean, hooked up and not full of water, road spray etc as the wire connector can receive road spray if it dangles. If it is the "direct fit" type, make sure your connection contacts are clean. Pics of the connection location are on Bay 13

Thanks I am the one who installed the new sensor so I know where the connector is. The sensor was a universal type and I am sure the wires were connected properly. I'll remove the plug and put a meter on the connections to make sure none of them came free

Does anyone know if something other than a bad sensor could cause this code?
