850 timing belt replacement (do it!) 850 1993

I let the replacement of the timing belt go a bit too long, 125,000 miles. Actually I thought it was replaced just before I got the car since it had been at the dealer at 60,000 miles, but it wasn't. An expensive replacement when it broke and crashed all the valves into the pistons. It needed a rebuilt head that came to $2400 with other misc parts a an independent shop. It would have been $3500 at the dealer.

Moral: Do it now!!!! Don't let it slip. I just wish I had known.

850 timing belt replacement (do it!) 850 1993

Good reminder to everyone. I replace mine every 100,000km which is easy to remember. Our '94 850 with 208,000km is now on it's third belt. I recommend that the serpentine belt is replaced at the same time. Forget the Honda mentality that the water pump be replaced "just in case" at the same time.
    My two cents...
