winshield?? S70

Would a winshield from a 850 fit on a 98 s70? Also, would it be bad to get aftermarket winshield? I don't want to, but I think that's what insurance will pay for. Anyone know of a place near Boston where I could get an S70 winshield if the 850 doesn't fit? The guy at the junk yard here said 850 doesn't fit S70...

I read all the posts to date. I've had a stroke of bad luck with truck stones and have had 2 aftermarket windshields...I can't tell the difference. (The original Volvo unit broke with a stone, as did the first replacement.) They seem as clear as the old volvo pitted one was when it was new.
Not sure why one would be curious as to whether S70 and 850s took the same...these things cannot be removed afterwards without breaking as far as I know. And I'd rather have an aftermarket than a used original. But as the the roof line on 850s and S70...as far as I can tell,,,and we have or have had 5,,,,3 S70 and 2 850s. The windows seem idential...changes are to curves on the front and rear facia metal. But when you have your windshield replaced...just ask the shop whether the parts are interchangable. If not...I'll fall on my sword.

I got an aftermarket from one of the biggie "our truck comes to you" joints for $200.00 installed a couple of years ago. No problems to date. People who sold it to me (sorry can't remember who) said it came from Ford and was identical to the Volvo except for the name. Who knows, maybe they were telling the truth?

I'm pretty sure the 850 glass won't fit since the windshield rake is
steeper on a 70 series (I have an 850 and an S70 and looking at them
    they are not interchangable).

The windshield is a structural component and correct installation is
very important. I'd be more concerned about the skill of the installer
then the source of the glass.

I have a 1993 850 GLT and just had the window replaced. My comprehensive deductible was 250.00 and the after market windshield was 285.00. I went ahead and had the Pilkington Volvo windshield installed using my insurance, and as it was not a result of an accident, my rates are not affected. I will say though, that the total cost was 722.39 but I only had to pay the deductible.!

    Go with the OEM...

Thanks man, I want to go with the Pilkington. Met Life said we have a 0 deduct. for the glass..soo i'm hoping they pay for it. The Volvo dealer does have it in stock. My dad wants me to go with the aftermarket, but i don't. There's already an aftermarket lens on it, that i'm working on getting ride of. I hate aftermarket, as selfish as that sounds.

My current windshield is aftermarket glass from South Africa. The one before that was from Indonesia. The OEM glass costs more than twice what the aftermarket costs. If your insurance is paying by all means get OEM if that's an option but it's certainly not TWICE as good as the aftermarket glass, in fact I can't see any difference.

I agree 100%. We had the Pilkington(sp?) put in at zero deductible - thought that I might as well go with the "best". Well, it was cracked again within a year. Who knows, it's probably more a luck of the draw, but if I had to pay out of my own pocket, I'd go with the cheaper solution.
