oil leak? V70-XC70 2001

I have a 2001 V70 XC. It has 68K and runs great. It burns no oil at all!

I just drove this car on a 3k trip in 2 weeks. When I got home the car sat for 4 days. There is a small spot of oil on the floor under the drivers side front fog light. The spot is about 5" by 3" and is not a puddle but oil stain on the floor. (probably less than 20 drops of oil)

I checked under the hood as saw oil on the side of the radiator (or oil coooler?) starting about half way down the radiator. There was oil on the sheet metal below the leak.

I drove the car yesterday and there was no oil under the car today.

I feel that whatever is leaking is doing it very very slowly. Just enough that after 3000 miles of running in two weeks it collected enough oil to drop off a few drop when it sat 4 days.

SORRY for the long explination.---Questions:

1, What is leaking? Am I looking at an oil cooler, or an oil line?

2. Could it be a split oil cooler or a leaking line?

Thanks in advance.

Terry Johnson

its not trani fluid from the connection at the radiator? Trani fluid, even one drop, will spread like the dickens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if it was tran. fluid. (I'll check if I see it again.)

If I can't see the color of the oil, how can I tell if it's tans. or engine?

If it is trans. oil, can the connection just be tightened? Thanks, TJ

The leak seems to be (at least the oil is) on the end of the radiator on the drivers side. It starts half way down the side of the radiator.

        Man if that...... V70-XC70 2001

doesn't sound like a trani line connection leak at the radiator I'll eat your hat! Trani fluid also smells different than engine oil!! Wipe a white paper towel on that lower part of the radiator...if shes pink its one of the trani cooler lines into the radaitor. May need a new o-ring. Requires a clip spreader to pull the lines though!
