Hello all!

In the market for a roof rack for my S70. I know that Volvo has some factory racks that are actually reasonable in price(@130). I think I heard that these were made by Thule? Will regular Thule accessories work on the factory racks?

Any other options out there that are worth consideration? Plan on using it to port canoes and bikes on my S70.

The Volvo rack is definitely made by Thule, and I have never heard of anybody with a complaint about strength. Yakima makes a round bar and claims it is better, but as far as i can see, it is more marketing than a better product. I have seen both with slight bends in the bars ;-) Plus for the volvo version of teh Thule rack is that it fits the pre-drilled mounting holes that are already in the upper sections of your door openings. You wil see a single finished hole in the top of each door frame when door is open, and that is what they are for. The racks clamp down with a single lever and then are locked in place when you close and lock the car doors. Also, lots of Thule accessories around, especially eBay. If you get a used Volvo rack, be sure it is for teh 850 / 70 series, as each series has a different width, and they are not adjustable .

Thanks for the info Mike...that fills all the hole for me. Think i will go that route with my local dealer...not back fer 150. I think i spent almost 400 on outfitting my Landcruiser with Yakimas.

Go with Yak for a stronger rack, but check the post on the V70 board if you want to save some money. (someone was trying to unload his Thule rack)

Recommend Thule. Yes, Thule accessories work on the Volvo rack/bars etc.

Thanks for the reponse Greg. Are you not recommending the volvo factory racks? are they weaker? Looking at those bc of the cost factor... 150, compared to well over 200 for the basics with Thule or Yakima.
