salvage V70-XC70 2004

I happened upon a 2004 S70 X Country black, SW, AWD, 2.5 turbo, AT loaded, bags ok, leather at a local auto salvage. I've never owned a Volvo and I've never bought a salvage vehicle to be rebuilt before. The vehicle has virtually no miles on it and is like new inside. But as you can see in the photo, it was rolled and there's quite a bit of rear end damage (top and bottom). Beyond the anticipated body repair costs, I'm concerned with costs associated with repairing a Volvo. The asking price is $US 9,000.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

    salvage....RUN!!! V70-XC70 2004

    I'd say "run away!!!"

Realize that is has NO warranty, is likely to have all sorts of hidden problems (nightmares) which may require alot of dealer labor at straight time.
Then if and when you want to sell, with its salvaged title most others will also not want it.

For $9K, I can buy a very nice used car in perfect condition that will last me better than 10 years.

looks like its probably a new shell to me (from what i can see - which isnt a lot!)...

trust me the price will be right, the costs will be high and if its a steal a local shop will buy it before the dust settles...

You seem like you dont know what your looking at - and in such cases run like hell!

seriously if its been totalled its going to be expensive, and some hidden stuff (have you ever repalced an entire interior before?) may bite you...for example is the drive train ok, and will it be 1000 miles after you rebuild it...

      salvage V70-XC70 2004

Recently there was a V70 XC on Ebay by a dealer on the east coast. It was priced to move, a couple of thousand less than all the other comparables. In his discription he had to note that it was a vehicle previously reported as destroyed. There is a permanate note on the title reflecting that the vehicle has been declared salvage and repaired. Most loan companies will not loan money on a vehicle like this even when fixed. Therefore, should you buy it you may have to keep it until it finally dies because it becomes very difficult to sell to someone else and it will not sell at book value, usually it will be thousands less. Think it through first and then think it through again.

        salvage RUN V70-XC70 2004

RUN, run, run...unless you need a bunch of replacement parts. Keep in mind, engines do not react well to being rolled.

And $9k can buy alot of car...

XC Salvage - run away is right... V70-XC70 2004

Run away is right - I'm at the end of a year long project getting a 1998 XC back on the road. Its not worth it in the long run, and its not something I'm going to be repeating in the future. If decide to keep the car I might get my money out of it, but the laws where I live (NH) made it very difficult and very expensive to get this car back to the point where I can get a reconstructed title. The last hurdle is the safety inspection and it will finally be on the road.

            Here's some stats:

1998 XC - nearly every option, all mechanicals fine and working, 88,000 miles
Purchased for $6000 - rear end hit, mostly cosmetic damage to sheet metal (some frame damage in rear cargo area)
            Frame work: $1000
Parts: $500 (glass, bumper, turn signals - all from salvage yard)
Body work & paint: $1500 (this was a low price from a buddy who's brother is in the business, it had over $17,000 worth of damage according to the adjuster's report)
            Tires: $300
            Reconstructed title expenses: $250
Labor: (more lost weekends sniffing bondo than I care to remember)

I'll be putting up a web site outlining the whole process, with pictures, invoices, prices, and all the other details.

Having taken over a year to do this and still not being done, I think you'd be better off staying away.

I'll sell you mine now that its finished if you want it for $9,000 though :-).
