10 PIN Female Pigtail in Trunk Area - WHAT IS IT FOR ? Towing ? V70-XC70 2003

I have a 2003 XC70 and in the spare tire well there is a wiring pigtail - 10 pin female connector. I assumed (no jokes) this was for a towing wiring harness. I ordered same from local dealer. I get a round 7 pin connector. Not what I need.

I go to sales dept. and ask them (since they sell the car, product knowledge, etc) what is the 10 pin rectangular female connector for? I have the service manager AND 3 sales guys out staring at a 2003 XC70 with me. Not one of them knows what the hell my square 10 pin female connector pigtail is for. This is N-O-T making me confident in dealing with this dealer in the future. By the way, more than 1 2003 XC70 has this, so it should NOT be an anomaly.

Anywho, anyone know what this is for ? FYI - this dealer shows ONLY the 7 to 4 pin connector for the XC70.

Thanks for any help,
Barry

It is for a trailer harness. Taillights, turn, brake, 12V power supply, rear fog, and backup lamps are all available from this conector. The Volvo kit comes with a euro 7 pin round conector, to which you add an american 4 pin adapter. Takes about 10 minutes to wire your trailer.

So you are suggesting that a Volvo or aftermarket connector will fit the factory 10 PIN pigtail in the trunk. The Volvo dealer staff was completely mystified by the 10 PIN pigtail.
