Whirring noise? 1998 S70 S70

My 1998 S70 (GTAS) makes a whirring noise, sort of like a washing machine spinning at medium speeds. It's always done this, but i'm wondering if it's normal. Last time the check engine light came on it was a faulty purge valve. No other engine problem other than an occasional hiccup in engine, which i believe is normal?

well if ti comes on shortly after starting it and the turns off after
a minute or two I would say its your secondary intake airpump.
