new owner rotor question 850

Hi all,

Just purchased a '96 850 t5, 88k. In the past I have maintained a '78 245 and and currently own an '87 745t. Mostly have dealt with ipd for parts, and have lurked on the 700 forum, but was wondering if any one has comments about buying new brake rotors for the 850 from the e-bay sources?

Also for general info, I put a set of Toyo Proxes 4 205-50-16's on the car and while the ride is good, they really whine especially when the pavement is wet.

Steve.

I agree with Jack that the rotors and pads from IPD would be fine. I just installed rear pads and rotors (and e-brake shoes) from FCPGroton on my 850.
http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo.htm (I think I saved about $25 on the same parts that IPD sells.)
I used the Zimmerman rotors and the Axxis Metal Master pads. The pads came with the teflon shims.
I have used many genuine Volvo pads and rotors in the past on my 850 and my 740 but have never seen a real advantage with the OE compared to these good quality parts from IPD or Groton.
I am not sure about those that are sold on ebay. It depends on how reliable the seller is. I have bought other parts on ebay without any problems - it all depends on the seller. Actually, I believe that Groton lists parts for sale on ebay sometimes. I would be careful buying brake parts from other sources that I was not familar with.
Sounds like you got a sweet T5 with only 88K!.....enjoy!

I replaced my rotors & pads on my 96 850 T. Used the package deal from IPD which included rotors & metal master pads. Delighted. There is an excellent pictoral on rotor replacement on the Ozbirck site. I also have some comments in there about using PB blaster to get the rotors to come off if they are stubborn. There is also an excellent illustrated instruction set on Volvospeed.

i used Brembo disc and PBE pads on mine and got them from http://www.alloemvolvoparts.com/
shipping is free with $50 purchase. i would look around they all seem to carry the same stuff and then look at who is cheapest with shipping included. sometimes places like http://www.carpartstogo.com/ will still be cheaper even after you get shipping added on, and sometimes not. i think with the rotors weights it was cheapest at volvo parts.
