transmission code 2-2-2 850 1993

Hi All, my transmission is stuck in 3rd gear with the orange arrow light blinking. I pulled the code and it says 2-2-2. Which means the S2 solenoid has an open circuit. So it doesn't sound to hard to DIY, so I called the local dealer for the part. The guy told me the S1 and S2 solenoids are the same, so I'm wondering, does anyone know which is which before I pull out one of these solenoids. I'd hate to get under there and not know which on to pull out. Or even worse, put it back together having changed the S1 solenoid. Anyone out there done this one before?

The only repairs I have done to my auto trans were flushing the fluid and replacing the PNP switch. With that said, I believe the solenoids referred to are inside the transmission, in the control system, which requires a lot of work to access: remove battery and shelf, drain trans and disconnect trans fluid hoses, support engine from top, remove left wheel and splashguard, steering gear, ball joint, and lower subframe.

I hope that it turns out to be a wire or connection accessible without opening the transmission.

Good luck
