My driver-side electric seat has stopped working. I can move the entire seat forward / backward but I cannot move the seatback at all. The seatback is so far back it is quite uncomfortable. I would be happy to have it manually adjusted to a permanent position never to be moved again.

I've seen the info on how to replace the seatback wiring. Looks tedious - I certaintly don't want to tackle that and I also don't want to spend $$$ on what appears to be hours of labor for a mechanic. Is possible to manually adjust the darn thing? It looks like there are some bolts that could be loosened to move the seat up to a normal position, but not sure if I should chance this without getting some expert advice here.

PLEASE HELP - I've lived with this quite a while now and am getting a bit unnerved that I can't enjoy the wonderful seats they put in this car.

If you want a used seat go to ErieVOVO.com You can buy a fully functioning drivers seat for $275.00 out of one of their salvaged cars. $50.00 for shipping. I ordered one expecting it to be in OK shape...Received in Excellent shape and everything worked perfectly.

Mine would go back but not front and I managed to get it back up by yanking on the seat back while someone worked the switch. I eventually just went to the junktard and bought a whole seat for $50.

I had mine replaced by a local Volvo shop and they charged me about $120 to do it. After reading the posts about the fix, I decided it was worth that!

You could open it up and manually turn the mechanical parts that
the cable turns. But, as long as you are in there might as
well replace the cable.

You can't reset it externally -- you have to open it up. I also
would not try that since the seat is an imporant safety item and
it needs to be strong (so avoid unbolting it in such a way that
it could collapse if rear-ended).

I replaced my cable in under 2 hours. First one I did. A pro
could do it in an hour. It was not too tedious; but, it is one
of the harder do it yourself projects.

Thanks. I've decided I better pay the piper and get it done professionally. I'm handy but not that good and this is important. If I couldn't sit in the seat, what would I do then.
