Owner install of driving lights on 2001 V70 V70-XC70 2001

Has anyone done a "do it yourself" install of the driving light kit on a V70? I have an 01 2.4T which the specs say is all pre-wired for the driving light kit which comes with the matching switch that will mount in the blank beside the rear fog light switch. I know the car will need to be programmed for the lights once they're installed, but if you have done the actual install yourself, are there any tricks or pitfalls to look for? Was the wiring harness tucked up in where the lights go once you took out the knock out covers? And for the switch, was there a plug in behind the dash that just plugs onto the switch? My lights should arrive today so I'm hoping to tackle this over the weekend. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this. It would be most helpful if someone with an 01 or newer has info.

Cheers from Southern Maine

I hope all went well with your install--does anyone know if the 2003 V70 2.4T has similar existing wiring and same drill to install?

No wiring to worry about at the dash switch. The switch is actually allready there and conected. You simply pry off the blank cover and pop in the fog light button. Then you plug a relay into the central module under the dash, install a fuse, then hang the lights. Real painleass process. Then off to the dealer for activation. For those with newer models that have the fuel door release switch in the headlight switch, the entire switch must be replaced.

Bob,

The driving lights went in so easily, and just went to the dealer for programming yesterday. I was a little panicked when they told me they didn't work after downloading the software until I remembered I had left the 15A fuse out as a precaution not to risk damaging anything before they were programmed. Snapped the fuse in and voila! Let there be light. Thanks again for the excellent tips. Hope the class in TX was a good one!

Bob,

Excellent information! Exactly what I was looking for. THe kit actually came with 2 switches, one that fits the V70 and looks like the rear fog switch, and another shorter, fatter one. I jacked up the car and sure enough the wiring was already there for the lights (someone told me I'd need a harness, but I'd seen specs that is was all pre-wired). So I'll put everything in tomorrow, and take it to the dealer next week, I have to get a remote programmed anyway, so I can do it all in 1 trip now.

Thanks for taking time to reply. Have a great weekend!

Just came across your message...Glad to hear all is going well (so far).
I would like to do the same thing to my 01 V70.
Did you get the "kit" through the dealer? I would like to get some accessories but I am not finding many sources other that the dealer.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I checked dealer prices and was a bit floored. I even have a friend who is the yard manager at my local dealer. He told me about this place:

http://volvo.autowebaccessories.com/
For accessories their prices are pretty good. They don't do quite as well on Volvo parts.

http://www.volvopartsworld.com/
This is an actual Volvo delaer in Haverhill MA, and their prices have been pretty good.

The driving light kit (or fog lights as volvo calls them, but I've never seen clear fog lights) is pretty simple to install. The 2.4 and 2.4T are both prewired for them. The switch cover there now just prys off and you put in the one they send in the kit. I think the part number is 8622838 according to their website.

Good luck! I also wanted a trailer hitch and was going to buy one from the above link, but found an even better deal on those at www.etrailer.com. I only tow a light utility trailer for moving riding mowers and snow blowers etc. I got the whole works for under $150 delivered, which was about 1/2 what a local hitch installer wanted.

Regards,

You're welcome. You have a good weekend as well. As for me, I'm off to Texas monday for the new S40/V50 training class. I do love going to school!
