looking at 97 850 t-5 850

I cant beleave I am even considering another 850 but
I found a sweet 97 950 t-5 for 7800 w/ 75k on it

what is the horse power and is there any difference
between the t-5 and the "R" besides the front spoiler
and 17" wheels.

thanks for any info

Don't let price concern you. These cars don't hold their value well. This is about where it should be. I tried selling my 97 850 T5 and turned down a couple of offers in this range. (Ultimately sold my other car.) Similar mileage. Only paid $9000 two years ago at an infinity dealership.

do all t-5's come with the little round fog lights this t-5 dose not have them
new nose on the car??

My wife's came with no fog lights, TRACS or heated seats 850

It does have leather, premium sound, sunroof. All the goodies except the aforementioned ones. I lucked out on the TRACS because I heard that fails and the heated seats were subject to a recall. Heated seats aren't really necessary in Louisiana either IMHO :)

I believe the R has 240 HP and Alcantara (Italian synthetic suede) seats. The T5 has 222 hp and usually leather seats although my V70 T5 has velour seats(This seems to be rarer than the Alcantara).

I'm also considering a used 850-V70 turbo automatic wagon for my daughter, although I might just shoot myself first.

The 850-70 prices are becoming almost irresistable.

If I recall correctly, the horsepower breaks down like this for US markets:

High pressure turbos:
2.3 turbo, t-5: about 222HP
2.3 turbo, t-5r/850R: around 240HP

And some random, uncorrelated info for completeness:

Low pressure turbo:

2.5L, 97-2000 GLT: 190HP

Non-turbo:

2.5L, 20-valve: 168HP

I'm not entirely certain on the numbers, but that's what I remembered from what the pocket databook said the last time I read it. Wishing I had a turbo...

Hope this helps.

sperryrand is correct but the R can achieve 240 hp for only up to 30 seconds... 850

... BTW, my wife's '97 T5 wagon has been very reliable and, except for some annoying rattles, is a fine auto. It has about 83K on it. The price on the one you're looking at sounds too good to be true, so be sure to check for proper maintenance and records.

Good luck
