leaking differential seal V70-XC70

I have a leak from a seal at the differential on my 1999 XC . Are these typical, how involved is the repair, and what will it cost to repair.

    My 99 V70R AWD is just slowly starting to leak. The dealer told me this was a typical problem and Volvo has made a remedy.
    Part of the procedure, from what i understand, is to drill a hole and install a drain plug in the differential housing.

    I was quoted $350 to complete this.
