Which Flametrap? 850

I just got a flame trap kit from FCP Groton and I got 2 flame traps, one metal one plastic. The metal one looks like corrogated brass and is flat at both the top and bottom. The plastic one is concave on the top. My question is this: because the metal flame trap's holes are bigger than those in the plastic one, do you think that the metal flame trap will last longer without clogging?

Does anyone have any experience with both flame traps? Any preference?

Tonyg is correct the metal flame traps were used many years ago. The white plastic ones are used today and function very well. If your engine has heavy wear all traps will fill up in a years time. Make sure you have a good rubber tire gasket when reasembling so ther are no leaks air anywhere. I like to lubricate the connection with a high temp grease. Cleaning off the carbon build up around the throttle Plate is important also. Good Luck, a great car.

Sounds like they sold you some very old stock. Originally before 850's even existed, Volvo flame traps were made out of brass. Volvo later switched over to plastic flame traps around ten years ago.

Yea, I've used both and they both plug up if not kept clean. Go with the plastic one.
