P0119 intermitant coolant temp error code V70-XC70 1998

Check engine light displays above OBDII- error code. What is this, and how do i fix it? I find that my radiator fan runs for a long time after the ignition is shut off. It eventually goes off, but only after about 5min. Is this part of the error code?

P0119 intermitant coolant temp error code V70-XC70 1998

How's the temperature gauge reading?

My 98 S70 had a bad thermostat. It had the Check Engine on (intermittent only once or twice) and the fan would run after shut off.

thanks

Engine temps are middle of the scale- not overheating.

I believe that if it is a weak tstat you can get a code like that. My tstat on a2000 S40 caused P0128. Temp indicator is also somewhat misleading. I understand that if the temp is within a specific band of temps it is "software" fixed to read in the middle (very stable). Only if the temp exceeds a VERY high overheating condition will the needle move out of the middle range. I understand this is to keep the nervous nellies (male/female) from unecessarily going to the dealer when the needle jumps all over the place. In actuality the temp will fluctuate normally.

Change the tstat, it's the cheapest fix first.

I vote t-stat too. ...despite the fact that no overheating occurs.
mine ('98-70) would never get up to temp, yet the cooling fan would run after shutdown.
