yep, every time i hit some bumps the dash rattles. you can see it vibrate like it's missing some support or something. does anyone else have the same thing? seems like everything inside rattles to some extent, but this is the only volvo i've owned so i have no basis for comparison.

    It's likely the dash has been removed in the past to replace instrument bulbs and has not been put back properly. There are about a dozen screws found around the instrument panel and found under the speaker grills including around the end airvents that should be checked including some hidden clips that are also used to hold the dash in place.

    Make sure the bolts that hold it to the firewall are tight.You have to open the hood,remove the wiper arms,remove the torx 25 screws that hold the black cowl panel on and the bolts are located under the windshield support. they have a10mm head.Also you have to move the wiper motor assy to get to one of them.Whatever you do,DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THEM.You will break the tabs on the back side of the dash and if that happens your wallet will be in a world of hurt.

      you wouldn't happen to know the torque specs so i don't break them would you? i wonder if thats what the problem is now? it was like that when i bought it.........

    my dash squeaks but no rattles, maybe you drop something down the top vents. I've taken the dash off and there are some foam strips that you may have to replace, but I have 135,000 + miles and no rattles

      guess i should rephrase myself. sorry. i mean that the dash actually moves. i can see it shake up and down when i hit bumps. seems like its missing some support or something.

      how hard is it to ake it off? i might try that and see whats up........

        Follow the advice of Volvotech EXACTLY.

        If you still have movement, then the mounting tabs are broken.

          ........i will for sure. now i'm worried that they're already broken. i've suspected that the dash has been messed with since i bought the car....... i'll look into it when i can and post back.......
