ETS V70-XC70

My 2000XC Has been hesitating now and then it doesnt happen as soon as I drive it but usually after about 10 minutes it does. At onw point the ETS light came on and I stopped the car and then turned it off and then turned it on and the light turned off. But it is still having the same problem. If the ETS is the problem how expensive will it be to fix it?

ETS....repair? V70-XC70

You should note that while it's off the car, anyone sending the units to you won't be driving the car and most customers I meet wouldn't find that acceptable.
What's your repair warranty, like what if your repair attempt fails? What about software or stored codes? Will the repaired part be free of codes?

Here We Go Again!!! Call Volvo & Complain 800-458-1552 V70-XC70

As already posted, do a search under "ETS" "ETC" and/or "Electronic Throttle Control" and you will find, much to your chagrin, that this system is defective, costly and potentially dangerous. At this point Volvo refuses to take any responsibility for a repair that will cost between $900 and $1100.

I've already paid it and I'm not happy. I'm still encouraging everyone who has the problem to call Volvo and complain 800-458-1552.

Here We Go Again!!! Call Volvo & Complain 800-458-1552 V70-XC70

This is hardly new info nor unknown to Volvo but I'm sure that Volvos customer relations people are instructed to pretend that they have never heard of that problem before and will also seem to care. They'll listen as that's their job and you'll probably be talking to a kid like an ex-telemarketer who gets minimum wage.
Apparently you are new to this FWD/AWD forum because if you've been around for years, you'ld know that Volvo has had other costly problems in the past that they've also ignored. Their solution is to just trade you into yet another new Volvo, not fix older car problems at their expense (won't happen). Try doing a search here on AC Evaporators (namely for 850s) as every summer here it's a neverending hot topic and Volvo has never done anything to fix those older cars. Those repairs go over $1000 too and some 850s have gone through more than 3 of them (x ~$1000....ouch!). There was even one guy (Kino) who went so far with it as to create an anti-Volvo "bitch and whine" websight yet Volvo hasn't cared and they still sell cars despite his best efforts to stop them.

Are you going to post this with every ETS post here?

Mr. X - Do YOU work for Volvo in their Corporate Offices? V70-XC70

I am new to the AWD, but not new to either FWD or Volvos in general. Will I keep urging anyone with a defective ETS to call Volvo and complain? Yes I will. Why not, it's a free country and this is an open, public forum. What do you care for? It's my time. As for other costly problems that Volvo has had - so what? I simply don't follow or subscribe to the logic that since they have had other costly problems they've ignored I should just shut up, bend over and say 'thank you sir may I have another'.

Moreover, I am not trying to stop Volvo from selling their cars. I am simply trying to encourage people to speak up and let Volvo know that they need to improve their cars and that this particular defect is dangerous. While I sympathize with the folks who have shelled out $$$ for the A/C evaporators, that does not effect the driveability of the car. Shutting down at highway speeds, surging acceleration, no acceleration when you need it is a much more significant problem.

You should really try and do something fun this weekend, your cynicism is depressing.

No... V70-XC70

Just trying to save you from wasting your time and typing and/or cut/pasting skills. You can have all your fun here but eventually you'll realize that I'm right. It's also not me that's bothered here.

BTW, Volvo's not the only car manufacturer with its lists of known, costly problems but that's what's great about the internet today as people can do online research long before making a major purchase. I'd also never advise buying any new model the first or second year. Just wait until the newest Volvos come out, it's going to get worse IMO.
Me, I like older cars with proven technology where one knows exactly what they're getting into before buying. It's alot less hassles that way.

ETS.....not $1200! V70-XC70

It's ALOT less money than that at our dealership. The part now retails for under $600 and labor has to be far less than $300 anywhere.

$1200 is High, but $1100 is what I paid V70-XC70

$642 for the new module and then labor at about $100/hr. It is what it is. Depending on where in the country you live labor can be cheaper. And I guess if you have a tech who really knows what they are doing they can do it quicker, but I have not heard of anyone paying much less than $900 total.
