Suspension on 90k mile '94 850 850 1994

Hi, is there a recommended interval in replacing the struts/shocks and/or springs? I do notice the ride is not smooth, kind of rough. It has never been replaced, I'm the original owner also.

Thanks!

We are still with the original units on our 3 850's and the ride is still very firm over dips in the road, around curves, and during hard braking. In fact, I believe that the 93 has the firmest ride. We have a 93 854 GLT with 142,000, a 95 854 GLT with 170,000 and a 95 855T with 140,000 miles, all with no signs of leakage.

    Good luck.

my 93 still has the oem shocks, what really gose bad is the ball joints
sway bar links and control arm bushings, once thats all tight
the car ride like a volvo super harsh

I had one strut go under the original warranty, at 125,000 I had the other one start to leak. I also replaced the rear shocks at the same time. The rears weren't leaking, but the change really improved the handling. (But not the ride!)

Do the shock absorber test, push down several times real hard on each corner of the car and if the car bounces more than once you need new struts, otherwise you are still good to go. My Volvo mechanic also told me that the rear shocks very rarely ever go out. He said in all of his years, he had yet to replace a set.

I had to replace my front spring seats at about 90K, but that solved my problem. I have been told by dealer that sway bar needs it, but I have not done it yet.
