Is 850 Pre-wired for CD Changer?

Can anyone fill me in if my '95 855T should be pre-wired for a CD changer? My '93 960 was, and I believe that 1993 was the first year that Volvo added this pre-wiring. However, I haven't found anything in the 850 on first look. This is a new car to me (with 59k), so I haven't gotten to know its innards too well so far. Thanks

The answer is "maybe". Some had the wiring in place, some did not. The stock radio does support the changer but you may have to run a single cable from the head unit back to the changer. The changer gets its power from the antenna booster on the wagons. I installed our changer myself ('95 855GLT) and it was pretty easy. The instructions were acutally quite good. The standard installation location is in the rear under the floor (spare tire well) on wagons, but there was an optional mounting kit to put it upright on the LH side. That way you don't lose the storage space in the wheel well.

See if the newer style (98-00) mounting kit is listed to fit the wagon as it is much more elegant with a hinged cover and does not stick up as much in the cargo area as the original '95 version.

yeah...look behind on the rear driver's (left) side next to the wheel well. remove the panels and u should see some wires not used...they should be for the cd changer...at least, that is where the volvo cd changer goes from the factory

Look on your radio. If you have a radio with a cd player in it, you might find the button that says cd on it, then look directly to its right. It will say changer on the button. I have a cd player stock in mine and that is how I know it has the capability of a cd changer.

Our dealer added a CD changer to our '95 855 base.

They installed it in the glovebox. It would not take long to remove the glovebox and look for the plug.

I had to remove my glovebox and CD changer to track down a defective light switch that was running my battery down. It was pretty easy to remove them.

All the technician did to install the CD was to cut a round hole in the back of the glovebox (at the correct location) and add a metal bracket to the top of the glovebox. Note - they installed a Volvo changer.

BTW - I unplugged the glovebox light as there was no glovebox left to light, it was full of changer!

    some are..some arnt...mine wasnt on a 95...

if it is then the wire goes to the back left side of the car (looking at the back of the car!) and emeerges in the 'well' in the trunk...

I had to wire mine...took a couple of hours start to finish to pullk the radio, add in a volap, run the cable, install an alpine changer and screw everything back together...
