Driver-side low-beam headlight won't work 850 1997

This is a weird one... For some reason, the driver's side low-beam headlight has stopped working. Tried changing the bulb -- then the fuse. Neither made a difference. Also, the passenger-side running light doesn't work, although the right-turn signal does work (there are two filaments in the bulb).

Anyone ever encounter this problem?

I had to run a new ground for a similar problem on my '93

Thanks. I figure I'm going to get a new switch while I'm at it. As I understand it, a lot of 850s had headlight switch problems (I think the heat under the dash weakens the plastic -- I've got mine held together with strapping tape). I'll get a voltmeter and check the plugs as well -- and use the ohmmeter setting to check whether the ground is working. That might be the problem with the right-side running light as well, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to get a whole new light assembly for that side (I bumped into someone and shattered the lens -- the light assembly got exposed to the elements and rusted quite thoroughly).

As for the switch, I assume that there's actually supposed to be an "off" position, right? As long as we've owned this Volvo, none of the three positions actually turns off the headlights. They only go off when you're in-between positions.

You'd think there would've been a recall on something like that!

If you have a volt meter check for power at the plug-in on the back of the headlight, right between the covers you remove to change the bulbs. The Green-white wire gets power from fuse 11/22, and the blue-white wire gets power from fuse 11/20. The black wire is the ground. There are two fuses to the headlight, make sure you check both of them, especially if the high beam works and the low doesn't.(fuse 20 and 22 don't remember which is for which)
