AC & REC lights--have to ask 850

My understanding is that when the light next to the AC switch is off, the AC is on. I'm correct on this, right?

Next: what about the REC light? When the light next to the REC switch is off, is the REC function on?

I read the owner's manual, but apparently something just isn't getting through my thick head.

when the ac light is on the ac is off.

When the rec light is on then the rec is on

Its better to keep the rec off so you get fresh air in the cabin. Also you the windows will not fog up in damp weather. The heater/ac is very good in the volvo so the rec function is not required

On my '93 the light means that the a/c is off. I would assume that after many complaint letters of how confusing it is, they changed it. Because on my '94 the light on means that the a/c is on.

I think future plans call for connecting the a/c indicator to the high beam light.

Very strange. I have an Australian market S70 with climate control. When the light on the AC switch is off, the AC is off. When the light on the REC switch is on, air is recirculated. Quite logical.

If you have automatic climate control, when the A/C light is on, the compressor is off. If the REC light is on, that means REC is on. Very strange, but that's how mine is on 97 T-5 wagon. The non-auto climate controls might be different.
