Just got the car back from the dealer in St Louis. Total repair cost to me, including both the throttle control unit and the MAF, $124.00. Turns out that the aftermarket service contract folks decided to cover it, except for the $50 deductible and some clamps, and other small parts. Haven't added it up yet, but just scanning the bill, the parts would have been about eight hundred bucks (however, they give you a box of candy to eat on your way home--cost is hidden in the "miscellaneous shop overhead" item). If I can manage to have another 4-5 hundred in covered repairs before the service contract runs out, it'll have paid for itself.
BTW, the dealer pitched my IPD throughpass gas cap, claiming it was one source of codes (possible, tho it's been on the car for three years now); I checked the IPD site and they now have a warning not to use that cap on '99 and later cars( just below a long story about how well it worked on a V70). Now to see how much of the $400 tow bill (120 miles at $3/mile, plus $40 hook fee) I can get reimbursed by my insurance company. Meantime, I'm gonna be nice to my old truck--never know when it's going to be needed because the S70 is down with Dutch elm disease or Belgian waffle syndrome or some damned thing.
