100,000 mile tune up? 850 1997

Hi. I'm sure this has been covered, but I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for. My much-loved 850 has reached the 99000 mark and will soon be at 100000! She's in good shape overall, but I am wondering if there is anything in particular I should take her in for when she reaches 100000. The manual mentioned a fuel filter... is there anything else? I had the timing belt changed at just below 70000. At 88000 she got new spark plugs, ign roter, dist cap and air filter.

Thanks!

By the way, thanks again for putting up with my stupidity... I'm afraid I fit the mold of the stereotypical helpless female who knows nothing about cars! :(

Routine maintenance:-
Check tire pressure every Saturday morning
Oil and filter change every 3,000 miles
Motor Oil Addictive (BG MOA or BG 111) on every other oil change
Lubricate all doors and joints
Top of fluid
Charge AC unit every spring
Avoid using cut-rate gasoline

Every 10,000 miles:-
Fuel injection cleaner in fuel tank (BG44k, BG MI3000, or STP FI Cleaner)

Every 15,000 miles:-
Combustion chamber induction cleaning***
Replace PCV valve/flame trap
Tire rotation
Flush coolant

Every 25,000 miles:-
Flush transmission fluid
Flush power steering fluid
Flush brake fluid
Replace windshield wipers

Every 50,000 miles:-
Replace spark plugs
Replace fuel filter
Replace air filter
Check thermostat

Every 60,000 miles:-
Replace timing belt
Replace drive belt
Check water pump

Every 80,000 miles:-
Replace distributor cap, rotor, plug wires

Every 100,000 miles:-
Check or replace upper motor mount
EGR cleaning

*** In addition to having an induction cleaning done (on my own driveway) every 15,000 miles, I usually do one right before an emission control inspection, to ensure that the Nox reading is low enough to pass. The emission test is administered every other year.

Slight correction to the previous thread.

The air filter is replaced every 25,000 miles, and not every 50,000 miles.

This is a great Board, but you should get a maintenance book to see what Volvo recommends.

The Haynes manual has a very realistic maintenance section and also has a decent introduction that is well worth reading.

Unless your 850 is different than ours, 100,000 mile service is just a regular 10k service. One of the big services is 90,000 and you seem to have done that.

One thing to notice is that all the Volvo listings are done in mileage and TIME.

For instance a timing belt is listed as 70,000 miles or 84 months.

It is best if you stay on schedule, but since I purchase cars used, they often need a few tweaks, so I do a write-up of all repairs and services so that I can track them. I list date, mileage, description of work, and $. I can look at a couple of years in a few moments.

I change oil every 3,333 miles so I can be on schedule at the 10s. I usually have a 5k done - I like a mechanic to look around my car on a regular basis. Since I am a bit compulsive, family rule is - check fluids and tire pressures weekly, look around the engine compartment every time you open the hood.

Admirable that you came here 850 1996

Hey there-

I think it is admirable that you came here to get the information that you needed- I dont know many other women that would do this.

Get your transmission flushed- ask about getting B&G tranny additive too.

From your post, it appears that you have gotten a lot of the need repairs done.

Good luck with the rest.

Thanks... I may be dumb about how cars work, but I did a lot of research before buying this one and I want to keep it in the best shape possible. There's not a dealership around here, but I found a couple of local mechanics who have done good work. I just don't want to get screwed over on routine repairs/maintenance!

How old is your thermostat. If it's been 3 years or 50K, I'd get that done.
