Power Steering Leak S80 1999

My S80 T-6 is leaking power steering fluid at a pretty good rate. I have to replenish at least every 5 days. Is this a common problem on the car? Where do they leak from? It is really tough to figure out where the leak is coming from! Thanks for the help...Dave

I had this same problem only last week. Dealer looked at it during the 120K service - the retaining clip on the end of the hose near the pump had backed off. Fixed now, apparently.

    HTH.

Yeah power steering leaks, took the car in as it started to make a noise when turning. Never thought it was a low fluid problem as I just bought the car cert pre-owned at ~47k in Dec. Dealer was going to have me out of there in a jiffy including the 52.5k service, seems these clips are a problem but easily fixable. Two hours later I was off in a courtesy car. Seems to a more involved leak. Thank goodness for the extended certified warrenty as the cars at 52k now. Go figure something major would occur just over 50k. Seems like if you are going to get a volvo shopping the dealships for SERVICE departarments is just as high up there as the car itself. You seem to spend alot of time there! In the three months I have owned the car had a burned out rear bulb, upgrade to the tranmission software to smooth out the shifting, and the good old $50 gas cap lesson.... and now this! Still, love the car.

If it's leaking that much, it should be pretty obvious. They can leak from the pump seals, either end of the two hoses that run down to and back up from the steering rack or the rack itself. Put a piece of cardboard under the car at night and you should see drops of red fluid under the point of the leak. If none, have someone move the steering wheel stop to stop with the engine running while you look under the car. You should see a dripping somewhere. Examine the area behind the pulley on the PS pump with a good light but be careful as you don't want some part of your anatony to get caught in the belt.

Had this same problem. Loose clamp on one of the hoses. Dealership only charge $96 to tighten... glad I wasn't the one paying.
