Uh Oh....It happened to you too, huh? I've read a couple of other posts about this happening lately, but don't remember if it was on this site or not. When it happened to me a couple of years ago it was difficult finding the solution. Problem (as you well know) is that there are not screws that you can losen anywhere to get the bracket off that clicks on the inside of the door that is keeping the door from opening.

Here's what you do. You'll have to carefully pry the door open wide enough to get a hack saw blade in the crack and cut the two post like pieces of the bracket. So you don't bugger up the vinyl-like surrounding of the door, tape it up with duct tape (or something) to protect the door before you start. Once the posts are cut through you'll be able to get the door open. Your Volvo dealer sells the post-like bracket that you will replace the broken one with. Re-installing is very easy. Good luck!

thanks!. The solution suggested by made in japan worked well. You will need a star head driver to take out glove box and replace the wire latch. also Stanley makes a nifty flexible 'flush', but also flexible cutting tool saw, that does the job well. And the tape idea is a lifesaver!

I just did the same fix. Thanks also to MadeInJapan and the other users who posted this fix.

2 comments:

1. Allen wrenches are fine for the glovebox, maybe that's what you meant by star-head driver but if not, allen wrenches work too.

2. Make sure the glovebox arms don't slip back through the holes in the glovebox (if you are removing them from the door to work); they can get lost back there. It almost happened to me.

Thans again for this excellent fix which would have cost a lot at the dealer!!
