Coolant smell coming in with the heated air 850 1995

Off and on lately I can smell that familiar scent of coolant coming into the cabin with the heated air. I replaced the expansion tank cap in case that was bad and cannot find a leak anywhere. Also re-tightened all the hoses. Nothing inside on the floor board either.
Any clues?

Check the driver side foot well carpet, is it wet or a little bit wet ? It can be the heater core hose's o-ring leak. I had that and dealer replaced the whole heater core including the o-ring instead of the o-ring itself. This was because I had the extended warranty, so I didn't mind.

Take a look at the pipes going into the heater core while the car is running. The heater core is located behind the center console (radio). You have to remove the driver side kick panel (plastic), then pull up the carpet and remove the black plastic panel to the left of the center console. You then see the heater core assembly and the pipes going into the heater core.

      Thanks much Ching-Ho.
I just printed out your reply so I remember all I must do. Probably won't
attempt this for another month or so until it warms up around here (SE Pa.)
I don't have a garage so everything is done outdoors.
      Thanks again!

have you noticed a loss of coolant? Do your windows fog up if on defrost? You potentially could have a heater core leak.

Yes, I have noticed a loss of coolant minor that it is from the expansion tank.
I have to re-fill about every 2 weeks or so.
No the windshield does not fog up on defrost.
If I do have a heater core leak, where is the leaking coolant going, since I can't find any?

The fins on the heater core are very hot, so the slow leak lets the coolant flow onto the fins and before it can drip it drys and gives off that sweet smell. If you coolant needs to be refilled every 2 weeks, you might want to pull back the carpet by the gas pedal, it could be leaking under the carpet and getting absorbed in the insulation...but maybe it is still drying on the fins. I just had to do this on my 98 S70. It really isn't that bad of a job, just takes a little time. You'll be happy when it's done.
