Extended Warranty on XC70 2001 V70-XC70 2001

I own a Volvo XC 70 2001. I know have 72 K. I drive 35 - 40 K per year . Would you recommend to buy an extended warranty for this car ? The cost is around $ 2500 cdn to cover up to 160 K.

Can somebody provide cost trends for XC 70 2001 over 100 K...

Thanks

Pierre

Extended Warranty on XC70 2001 V70-XC70 2001

You have to look at the numbers...

At your mileage-per-year, you are basically adding about a two year warranty.

The question is how many things that cost over $2500 are likely to go wrong in the next two years?

Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a two-year warranty, but that's up to you. Extended warranties are a form of insurance. There are things that will go wrong on a car based on how many miles you have on it and there are things that will go wrong based on how old the car is. I don't think you are getting your money's worth for things that will go wrong with age based on your mileage-per-year.

You asked the right questiion, though, what is the trend for an '01 XC over 100K? I don't know.

Grab that warranty in a heartbeat! You get 90K more miles of anxiety free driving. Any AWD cares -- taken care of. Any transmission cares -- taken care of. Any turbo or engine problems -- taken care of. I just had my seat warmers taken care of. The warranty covered everything but the heating element. It was just a switch but I didn't have to tear everything apart to find out what was wrong with it. I just took it in, took their loaner car and then picked it up for the $50 deductible. I don't have any cost analysis on a 2001 XC but I did replace a trans on a 965 to the tune of $2000 US at 105,000 mi, Even a radiator or water pump done by a dealer is going to be a decent hunk of change. We just bought a 2000 V70 XC with an extended warranty and I wouldn't buy a used car without one. Just my 2 cents (Canadian or US!)
