I want to put a cd player (single CD)in my 1995 850 that I just gave to my newly licensed daughter. It still has the factory radio/cassette player. I want to install it myself. Anyone have a brand/model that they have installed, and any suggestions on the installation itself? Thanks in advance!

    My experience is similar to the others. My son purchased a new Alpine CD changer on e-bay for around $150. I had to go to a local stereo shop to purchase the adapter cable. It ran about $50. I mounted the changer in the trunk under the rear deck. It doesn't take up any trunk space and you can't even see it unless you stick your head into the trunk. The Alpine unit works great with the volvo control unit. Overall, installation was very easy.

      I forgot to mention my car is also a 1995 850.

      One point to consider. If you purchase the CD changer and have it in the trunk, you daughter won't be distracted by changing CD's while driving. I feel that is very important for new drivers. The changer holds 6 CDs and is designed to work with the OEM control head in the car.

    Nakamichi makes a pretty good single-din CD receiver. you mihgt also check the online catalogue at Crutchfield's for comparison of various models and prices. Installation is pretty easy, if you get the adapter harness ( also available from Crutchfield's and others) to plug into your vehicle harness, then wire to the aftermarket unit. Search the bboard for references to aftermarket installs, etc.

    Assuming that your radio is cd changer ready, this information should help you:
    I bought and installed an Alpine CHM-630 CD Changer for my '93 850. I found it on ebay. After S/H, i think i got it for $150. Make sure that the CD Changer comes with a cable (~16 feet). You also need an adapter called VOLALP. you can get that at www.crutchfield.com. Good Luck.
