This is not causing a problem, however, I am curious.

I always reset my trip computers after filling up - being the one directly under the odometer, and the computerised one. They are both reset at the same time, however, at the end of each tank, there is consistantly approximately 400m difference between the two!

Is this caused by different methodologies in measuring? If so, how does each calculate the distance?

Just curious.

    The digital (electronic) trip odometer is very accurate. The analog trip odometer (which btw is not attached by a mechanical cable, but takes pulses from the ECM via a sensor) on the other hand is crude in comparison as the gears can have a large +/- error when rotating. That's how I see it anyway...

    I take it that is 400metres, am i correct? if so it is more than likely due to a small inaccuracy in the mechanical part of the mile-ometer. As these units where mas produced and each one was not specificly calibrated then there is much more room for error in the mechanical mile-ometer than the electronic trip computer.

    check to see if the trip computer is not set to english instead if metric.

    -95 850 T-5R 67,000 miles
    -82 240 GLT (now defunct)

      i have the same problem... how would you check to see if its not set to english or metric...

        If this were the cause, wouldn't one be reading miles, and the other kilometers? The difference in the two readings I have is only approx 400 metres over each tank, say around 550km.

          my trip odometer was reading kilometers which made the odometer read kilometers too. I just took mine to the dealer today, which he reset to miles. Cost about $53.00... He said if it continues to happen, I would need a new speedometer cable.
