Radio Codes no longer needed in new Volvos V70-XC70 2004

I went looking for the radio codes for a new Volvo V70 and learned from the service department that codes are no longer needed to activate the radio after installing a new battery. All new volvos excepy for the C series have the codes embeded on a flash chip that the car's central computer references. If the radio looses its code, the radio queries the flash chip, which then supplies the code. This is cool.

My radio will not work outside this particular car.

Thought you might like to know ...

Radio Codes no longer needed in most new Volvos but... V70-XC70 2004

This began with the '99 S80 and '01 on up (newer body style) for all other except C70s and X40s which still require codes.
The newer cars radios have no radio codes whatsoever BUT do require software via Volvos dealer Vadis PC to function. Once the SWs in, it works but if you buy a new replacement radio, it requires SW before it'll function and it won't work if ever installed in another car either if different from the car it was removed from (thus useless to theives).

Would that be all of the HU series radios? Is there a listing of which models of radio are/ are not involved? Is Volvo really just suppressing the legitimate recycled aftermarket, rather than deterring theft?
