Flashers don't work S70 1998

The flasher on my '98 S70 is no longer working. All lights are fine, so I went to an auto parts store and asked for a flasher relay. They sold me one, so I went out to my car and couldn't find where it goes. I went back in and asked if they had a diagram. Of course they didn't. Went to another auto parts store. They didn't know either. Ordered a Chilton's manual.

Looked on this board, saw some people who mentioned it's usually the flasher relay and something about it being behind the radio. I've looked there - didn't see anything.

Got the Chilton's manual. The only thing it mentions about flashers is replacing the whole switch (turn signal/wiper/cruise/etc.). It has a wiring diagram that shows a flasher relay. HOWEVER, it doesn't show where the relay is in the car. Of course.

The dealer is 25 miles away right now and my work schedule won't permit me to take it there - they have to pick it up, which means next week is the earliest I can get this fixed. At least I can manual flash for turns, but my hazards aren't working. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a safe car.

Asked the volvo service guy if he knows where it might be - says it has to be somewhere - everywhere that I've looked already.

Does anyone know where the flasher relay is on this car?

Thanks

Wierd - I picked my car up from the airport last night, didn't seem to have any problems with my flashers, until I had driven about 30 miles. Then I noticed they wouldn't work.

Ironically, I had a problem with the Starter fuse (50 amp) a week ago. Worked fine, drove 7 miles between offices, and when I went to leave, I had no starter circuit. Fuse was blown. I ended up swapping the Starter fuse with the ABS fuse to get started, and then went immediately to a shop to get a new fuse, but still...wierd.

Your emergency flasher switch............ S70 1998

I got it working for now by taking the switch out and smacking it on the suggestion of bob. Waiting for my dealer to get back to me with a price for a new one.

I have pulled out the hazard switch, but it didn't seem like that was it because there's no way the flasher relay I got at the auto store would fit. So it sounds like I need a new hazard switch?

The flasher relay you got at the auto parts store has no home on your car unless it looks like the hazard flasher switch. The hazard switch and turn signal flasher relay are integrated. There is no seperate relay.

I took it out, smacked it a few times and now it works again.

Thanks for your help!

the relay is part of the hazard light in the center dash. Pull the radio out, stick your hand in th hole and push the hazard light out from inside. Give it a good whack in your hand and try it to see if it works now. Eventually it needs replacement.

Did you check the fuse in the fuse box under the hood? Should be on the drivers side next to the firewall. Its a big black fuse box with a cover on it. Everything should be labelled when you open it up.
