Rear brake pad replacement 850 1995

Getting ready to replace the rear brake pads for the first time on my 95 855T. Volvospeed says to use a 12 inch prybar to re-sear caliper piston. I am accustomed to removing caliper and using a c-clamp. Is the prybar method safe? Don't want to screw up my calipers or bend the rotors!

you are better off on using a srewdriver to push the caliper back in, by using the old pads in the caliper. no need to take the caliper off. i've put about a thousand brake pads on volvos.

Have any suggestions for rear rotor replacements? I've heard comments about OEM, Cross drilled, Slotted and just wondering what your comments are...

So far I am thinking about the slotted rotors from IPD with the PBR semi-metallics.... Comments????

      Thanks!!

    Robert,
You probably won't be able to get the clamp in to depress the pistons. They are dual piston calipers. After you remove the old pad use a bar or large screw driver to push the piston back in. Loosen the bleeder screw first and push out the old fluid. It is a good time to bleed the system too.
I just finished rebuilding my rear brakes, calipers (rebuilt), rotors, and pads. Having rear brakes again sure makes a big difference. The old calipers were frozen up and the rotors were shot.
    Good luck.
