I had my catalytic converter replaced at a national muffler chain in November '03. Shortly thereafter my check engine light came on. Since we have purchased a new vehicle we have not been driving the 850. Today I brought it into a Volvo dealer to have spring seats replaced along with diagnosing the reason for the check engine light. The service writer told me that instad of unbolting the catalytic converter the muffler shop cut the converter out with a torch and then welded in a new one. He said although he could not prove it he suspects both O2 sensors were damaged by heat. Cost to replace is $622.00. Has anyone heard of this before? Any suggestions?
