My 95 850 odometer and trip meter stopped working at 99,900. After reading many posts, etc I concluded it must be the little plastic gear that was at fault. I ordered a new gear from odometergears.com. I just had the instrument cluster pulled and sure enough, the old gear had a broken tooth. The new gear fit and works great. Gear cost $25, labor to pull dash and replace $100. Dealer wanted $600 to put in a new odometer.

I am curious who pulled the dash and replaced the gear? I have the same problem on a "96 850. Was it a speedometer shop, local mechanic or other?

I found a speedometer shop in the yellow pages. He was familiar with the problem and had fixed many before. He charged $100 and I helped a little. It was interesting watching.

I had a speedometer shop guy do it. The whole process took about 1 and 1/2 hours. I helped him a little. The dash comes apart easily and once you get the instrument cluster out and take it partially apart, you find the odometer. The gear worked great. I didn't want to just do it myself for fear of making a mistake, but after watching him do it, it was not real difficult.
