Where is oil filter element located in 2000 V70? V70-XC70 2000

I have had my 2000 V70 for several months and have had trouble free enjoyment, racking up 4,000 miles since purchase. I want to change the oil and filter, but was unable to find the oil filter element. Where do I look? In addiition I noticed the filter element did not come with a crush washer; does this mean when I purchase the element, I need to purchase seperately the oil drain plug washer? The Volvo thing is new to me, having driven a 300SD MB for over 15 years. Thanks,

    Welcome to volvoland. The filter is under the right side of the engine and must be changed from underneath. You may or may not have a plastic cover under the engine which will have to come off. You will need the special filter wrench. IPDUSA.com carries them and get their ALUMINUM crush washers too. They also sell the filter elements you need for that car. I would suggest using only volvo or their supplier MANN brand filters. Do not let anyone sell you the copper washers. They are for the old steel pan volvos. Larry

      Boy, it's harder to get on this forum than it is to make and build a new Volvo from Scratch! TJ

      It now says I have to log in or Claim to be someone. My mom thought I was someone. I guess she is the only one.

        Sorry for being rude in my first post. However it's more frustrating to me to try to figure out how to get into these forums than it is to work on my 2001 V70XC.

        I would like to ask if the filter wrench is a standard (small filter) size?

        The have 2 or 3 standard sizes.

          The filter wrench is not standard. You can get one at IPDUSA.com. I suggest not doing the change without it.
